Becoming the Gatekeeper of Your Mind
Upon reading this, some of you may unsubscribe from Awarify in some form or fashion. I hope you don’t, but if you decide to,, I’m ok with it. And here’s why…
There is SO MUCH information coming at us on a daily basis from every direction - the news, social media, blogs, podcasts, newsletters, etc. It’s a lot.
I’ve always known this but didn’t quite feel it until I stopped scrolling mindlessly (and endlessly) on Instagram after getting a Brick to create a physical block. I realized I was regularly consuming a lot of information I didn’t want or even need, and it was starting to impact me. Essentially, it all just felt like too much - recipes, make-up, self-help, fashion, ALL THE DOOM AND GLOOM. I don’t want to fill my mind with other people’s thoughts and ideas anymore. Instead, I want to create space for my own thoughts, ideas and content.
That’s when I started think about how each of us need to be more empowered consumers of information. What I mean is - we need to be our own best gatekeepers to what we take in and also filter/unfollow/unsubscribe accordingly.
The two questions I use to help me figure out if the information/accounts/sites I’m consuming are worth keeping around or not:
How does this content make me feel?
Do I really need this information at this time? Then, depending on my answers, I take the necessary actions.
At the end of the day, you are responsible for what you take in. All I can say is please make sure it’s aligned to who you are or even who you want to be. Make sure it resonates by inspiring you, empowering you, educating you, or even making you smile/laugh. And remember, you can always pause and slow down the inputs as needed. No one cares about you more than you…so take care of yourself!
